This month’s Scholar Spotlight is of Isaiah Gordon, one of the 2018 recipients of the Milwaukee's Finest Scholarship Fund. Gordon will be attending the University of Wisconsin - Madison the Fall of 2018 and is majoring in nursing while looking to transition into pre-medicine.
Moving to a new city and making new friends could be challenging for anyone. As Isaiah Gordon arrived at UW-Madison, his home away from home, he began to reflect on each of the obstacles that got him to where he is today.
“In that experience with those fabulous people was the moment I knew my aspirations and expertise are demanded within the healthcare industry," stated Gordon. "I knew that my gift of caring for others needed to be connected with my passion,” he added while reminiscing on the inspiration he drew from his peers at a previous Certified Nursing Assistant course.
Gordon considers success to mean “putting your everything into something and being happy with results, whether you reach your goal or not.” He plans on working extremely hard to become successful by being persistent, taking risks, overcoming adversities and finishing each of his goals.
Due to the scholarship, Gordon felt compelled to further his education so he can passionately help countless people. He was previously not convinced of his abilities and goals of becoming the best student he could possibly be, but Gordon says this scholarship boosted his determination and confidence.
“Once I received the letter of recognition from Milwaukee's Finest, I knew that I had a destination and a purpose to continue to higher education,” explained Gordon. “I was assured that if a foundation believed in me, I knew that I had to believe in myself.”
College will be a new start for him and he plans on making the best of it with his new-found confidence.
The Milwaukee’s Finest Scholarship Foundation is extremely proud and supportive of our scholars. We aim to spark a light in each and every one of them. With the support from our generous donors, we are able to help scholars like Gordon launch their careers.
