Milwaukee’s Finest Selects 2023 Student Empowerment Award Recipient
MILWAUKEE – Today, Milwaukee’s Finest Scholarship Foundation (MFSF) is proud to announce Angilique Jones-Cornelius as the 2023 recipient of the Student Empowerment Award. This award honors a Milwaukee County resident who has made a substantial impact on students by helping them establish academic and personal skills necessary for success in higher education and life.
Angilique Jones-Cornelius serves as the Social and Emotional Coordinator for Milwaukee Public Schools’ Department of Black and Latino Male Achievement (BLMA). As a Milwaukee native who graduated from Franklin High School, Angilique earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Jackson State University. She eventually returned home to earn her Master’s of Education degree from Cardinal Stritch University and a Master’s of Science degree in Psychology from Concordia University.
As an educator with over 20 years of experience at the largest school district in Wisconsin, Angilique has held the role of a middle school teacher, School Counselor, and Director of Guidance for Washington High School, Bay View High School, and Golda Meir High School. She also served as the Team Lead for Mayor Tom Barrett’s Earn and Learn Summer Program.
Furthermore, being a loving wife and a mother to four children, Angilique is a proud member of Christian Faith Fellowship Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., National Counselors Association, Milwaukee Urban League Guild, Top Ladies of Distinction, and the National Council of Negro Women. She founded the ‘Adopt-a-High School Senior’ for Milwaukee, a program that started to support high school seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She also runs various scholarship events for graduating seniors each spring with the assistance of The Greater Milwaukee Urban League.
Angilique has been featured on ‘Positively Milwaukee’ and recently won an award from the Milwaukee Times’ Black Excellence Awards for her diligence in education. In her free time, Angilique enjoys traveling, music concerts, watching sports, and spending time with her family.
Nominations for the Student Empowerment Award were due on March 24, 2023, and reviewed by Milwaukee’s Finest Board of Trustees. Angilique Jones-Cornelius will be honored during the Milwaukee’s Finest Scholarship Awards at Milwaukee City Hall on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. This event will be free and open to the public.
